Introduction

Cisco is planning to migrate its API authentication mechanism to a new platform
We have attached a document from Cisco detailing the changes.
Cisco has set the timeline of 30th September, 2023 to complete these changes. (this was previously 1st April 2023).

Due to this change at Cisco, we (and all others who use Cisco APIs) will need to be prepared.
Once Cisco releases its changes, we will have to:
  1. Create a new "Application" in the new CCW API Console
  2. Add relevant APIs to this new "application"
  3. Test the API Keys generated for this new "application" in StrataVAR internal orgs
  4. Update the configuration in sandbox org if #3 works fine
  5. Update the configuration in production after testing functionality in the sandbox (#4) by 30th September, 2023

Progress Updates

Summary: We are ready to migrate. Once we complete our plan and setting up our DevOps, we will share a plan to migrate PQW (ETA: 15th May).

April 28, 2023

Testing and QA have been completed.

March 20, 2023

The open issues with Cisco has been resolved. The development (at StrataVAR) has finished to accommodate the changes.

March 8, 2023

We had a discussion with the combined panel of Cisco+Okta+Wipro, and now we are able to generate access_tokens using the regular workflow.

But we are unable to use these access_tokens to perform any API calls to the Mashery API platform. For example, we are unable to retrieve entities like the Estimates, Deal Registrations, and CCWR Contracts from Cisco.

We have reached out to the team that handles the Mashery APIs today (on March 8, 2023) and await their response.

March 6, 2023

We heard back from the Cisco team, and they have scheduled a call with us and Okta to investigate the issue. The call will happen on 7th March 2023 at 9 AM Pacific Time. This blog will be updated with the results.

March 3, 2023

Cisco deployed the changes on the 1st of March.

For the last three days, we have been collaborating with their team to get things working and in place.

It seems to us that the deployments are not working as per the specifications (multiple specs, which conflict with each other in a few places).

In order to address this, we are trying to collaborate with the Cisco Team.

What is not functional:

  1. Generation of access tokens in some specific cases
  2. Using the token in other cases (where problem #1 does not exist)
